Pumpkin Fried Rice

After visiting the Seattle based Japanese restaurant Ginza and ordering their delicious pumpkin fried rice, I had to try to make it on my own!  Given that this was my first time cooking any type of squash/pumpkin, it took me quite a while to get it to my liking, not to mention I was also sweating like a pig hanging around the oven and stovetop for so long!  But in the end, I truly surprised myself as it turned out quite yummy!

Prepping the pumpkin/squash for roasting in the oven (I don't have a wok big enough to steam it.)

Prepping the fried rice ingredients while waiting for the pumpkin/squash to cook

Fried rice is ready!  It took a super long time for the pumpkin to soften in the pan, so I'd recommend throwing it in with the pumpkin to cook!

Dinner is served!

"How do you do?" (hat on, lol)

As Michelle Tanner used to say "Yummy in the tummy!"

Book Review: The Help

I have been a major bookworm lately, but the only book important enough to me to share is The Help by Kathryn Sockett. This book tells a beautiful story about black women working for white families during the civil rights movement and their fight and sacrifices to stand up for what's right. I highly recommend this book...I can't even rave about it enough! From page 1 all the way through to the last page, I was engrossed in the story and I had to stop myself from reading it too quickly so that I could "save" some for later! In addition, there is just enough mystery about each character in the book to keep you sitting at the edge of your seat through to the finish. You really grow to love the characters in the book, so much that I found myself laughing, rated G cursing, and tearing at the end...

"You is kind. You is smart. You is important."

Ah, so amazing!

I took a long weekend to visit friends on the East Coast this past weekend.  Great trip, the best company, and new memories.  I'll let the pictures do the talking!

Competitive games of Banana Grams (I was the ultimate loser this trip, but I shall redeem myself!)

Delicious meals cooked by Auntie

Driving in pouring rain into Manhattan from Philly for an authentic Japanese dinner at Robataya with friends that left us hungry for more...literally!  Because the portions were teeny weeny!
