Moroccan Painting

I had been looking for a large piece of artwork to sit above my fireplace in the living room for some time, but hadn't been able to settle on anything and was hesitant to purchase online in case the painting didn't look the way it did on my computer screen and I wouldn't be able to return it.  So, I decided to paint my own.

I selected this stencil, then went ghetto by printing it out in the dimension I needed and using an exacto knife to create my cutout instead of purchasing it.  It probably would have saved me a lot of time since the stencil allows you to paint multiples at the same time whereas I could only paint one at a time.

Then, I went to Aaron Bros. and bought a 36x48 canvas and painted it in a textured silver and white.  Once the paint dried, I started my gold overlay of the Moroccan pattern.  I found that when I used a paintbrush, the paint would bleed into the cardstock and smear the pattern.  So, I went to Michael's and purchased a small paint roller and that worked like a charm.  I went over the pattern with a small paintbrush to darken the gold once I got my first layer completed.

Halfway through

And done!
